Ingredients
2 cups broccoli florets (about 454g/ 1 pound)
¼ cup avocado oil or coconut oil
170g (6oz) sirloin steak, cut into thin strips
3 tbsp beef bone broth
2 ¼ tsp wheat-free tamari, or 3 tbsp coconut aminos
1 tsp fish sauce (optional, for umami taste)
½ tsp grated fresh ginger
1 clove garlic, minced
¼ tsp Swerve confectioners’-style sweetener
⅛ tsp fine sea salt
Directions
- Bring a medium-sized saucepan of water to a boil over high heat. Boil for 3 minutes after adding the broccoli. To keep the bright green colour, remove from the heat and rinse under cold running water. Place aside.
- In a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat, heat the oil. Cook until the steak is cooked to your liking, about 3 minutes for medium-rare.
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, warm the broth, tamari, fish sauce (if using), ginger, garlic, sweetener, and salt for a few minutes. To combine, stir everything together thoroughly. Serve the sauce over the broccoli and beef. Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to four days. To reheat, heat for about 5 minutes in a lightly greased skillet over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- Recipe Notes
If you’re using canned broth, add 1 egg yolk for a natural thickener. Whisk the yolk into the broth, then gradually whisk it into the hot sauce mixture, similar to how hollandaise sauce is thickened.
